Hello, My name is Steve who has friends who are Knibbs. I wanted to give my friends (Knibbs) a pictuer of the Knibbs family crest if there is such a thing. I have looked at your web site but I did not see any History of what "Knibbs" means or if there was a crest/shield. Do you know where I might find this info. Regards Steve PS : Well done on a good site.

I can't believe I've found a web site dedicated to our obscure surname! An excellent site it is too. I have very little information to give about my own family history but I would love to find out or even get in touch with other Knibbs's. I can tell you that there is a William Knibb centre in Kettering, Northants and I can find out information about this and him if you so wish.

Hello Don, I have always wondered if it was possible to trace the family back over several generations but like most people I have never had the time.We are very closely related as Walter Knibbs was my grandfather!I can fill in some of the later information obviously reference my mother and my wife's maiden names,if you think anything else would be relevant I can ask my father who is still alive and he may be able to remember something about our respective grandfathers/mothers etc.I note that you received some info from Colin Rapley who is my cousin. regards and best wishes John

I have recently discovered my maternal great grandmother's maiden name: Eliza Knibb/Nibbs, born 1850, birth registered at Gamlingay, Cambs and Baptised at Potton. Her father's Christian name was Benjamin. Does anyone out there have a link with this Potton/Gamlingay Nibbs family?? I should like to hear from them.

Going through family papers I keep finding refs to Knibbs. Some from London in the early 1900s and later in Canada and Oz. The group that appear in your 1901 census entry look interesting, 1108112 Caroline then Edward, Frederick, Percy, Rosa and Harold. Except for Edward they are familiar names. Further research will of course make things clear and I may find out if they are the same people who appear in letters, mainly to their uncle Thomas Moore, and sometimes their aunt Rosa Moore nee Dubensky. I think Caroline may be the sister of Rosa Moore but no proof yet. Most interesting site and helpful. Thank you.

Hi Don - what a fantastic website. My Dad died last year and I know nothing of his parents so I thought I would try & find out what I could. I went to the internet and typed in Beech Lanes hoping a map of th area might appear and I couldn't believe it when the family name came up! I think my g.gdad was Joseph Knibbs who married Sarah Wyatt, their daughter Elizabeth married John Martin in 1853. I think they had nine children in all and my g.dad was Samuel Duffied Martin, although on one census it puts him in as a grandson. He married Nellie Porter in 1902. He died 2 months before my Dad was born. there were 4 girls and 2 boys in the family. If anyone knows any more I would be pleased to hear from them. I only have access to my works email at the moment.

My great-grandmother x 3 was Anne Knibb, born 1750, daughter of James and Elizabeth, Stoke Goldington. She married William Richardson of Roade, Northants., whose ancestors had come from Stoke Goldington. Having lived in six different counties in England, and also Kenya, we came to live in Great Brickhill in 1975. I have since discovered that Anne's nephew John Knibb as a widower married Eleanor Aldridge of St. Goldington, who in turn had a cousin Rebecca who married Newman Bates of Great Brickhill in 1860, both being in their sixties. By 1891 the cottage next to the one occupied by Newman and Rebecca was occupied by a George Knibb and his family. Although George was born in Wroxton, Oxfordshire, it seems feasible that there is a link somewhere. It is strange that among the names in your family tree are both Bates and Aldridge

We had a John Knibbs (1779- 1852) married to Jane Clarke (1782-1845). Joyce Fischer of Regina, SK Canada has done much of the work on the family tree. Do you know of any connection? I did not find any. Thanks.

Hi, My maiden name is Bayliss, my paternaal ancestors ggg Joseph Bayliss and gggUncle John Bayliss came from Kingswinford Birmingham, they were marines on the 2nd and 3rd fleets. They served in India before coming to Australia on Phillip's Foote Regiment. Not sure if you are related but would like to know, somewhere buried I have the names of Joseph and John's parents and siblings I think it goes right back to the 1600's Please let me know if you have any information. I know that their father had his own business and was a manufacturer of brass nails. It is written that some of those nails are still holding up old buildings in Birmingham. regards mavis bayliss symonds

My husbands ancestor, Elizabeth Markham, married into the Knibbs family. She was born 1847 in Middle Aston, Oxon (sometimes mistranscribed as Charlton on census'). She married Robert Knibbs, and had 11 children.

Hello! I'm not sure if this is the right place or not? My mum, June kavanagh nee June Mary Knibbs has told me about a Rozanne Knibbs who was unknown to her but according to her birth certificate was born to Alexandra & Charles Knibbs (my mum's grandparents). We would be interested to track her down if you have any further information? Also, we know that Charles Knibbs went off to Normandy in France in 1918. I would be interested to track any of his progeny down. I am fluent in French so wouldn't have any problems translating documents. Any ideas of how to go about this? Thanks, marianne

Hi Don, I keep turning up like the preverbial penny!!!. I haven't had much time lately to browse but I have noticed a little confusion with regard to Leslie William Nickless, my dad. I believe my niece Lesley contacted you last year, she is the daughter of my brother Ralph Nickless but the information reads that she is a he? Also, there has been a recent bereavement Jack's wife Violet passed away on 22nd October 2006 and her son Keith is wading through all sorts of paperwork to try and bring in up to date items and dates. I will course contact you again with all the necessary details. Keep up the good work. I keep referring people to the site in the hopes that it will bring everybody together. Regards, Maureen Smith

I am the widow of the late Michael Anthony Knibbs, born 5/4/46 died 14/2/02 he has a brother Malcolm Kenneth Knibbs born 30/10/42, who also emigrated to Australia. Their fathers name was Kenneth Knibbs born 10/3/1912, died 15/7/1982 here in Australia, who married Pyllis May Hartland and were all born in Birmingham, they moved to Worcester around 1952. I was curious as to whether there were any relatives that we did not know about and also I have just found out that there was a nib factory in B'ham and wondered if there was any connection to the factory and our name. hope you can help. Thank you Dawn Knibbs.
