The Habershon Family web site
shows that John is the son of James Edwin Habershon b.1837 and his wife Emma Poppleton of Doncaster, with siblings William b.1864, Rosetta b.1867, Albert Edward b.1869, Herbert b.1870, and Walter b.1876. This data is taken exactly as it appears in a book, "Family of Habergham, And Its Modern Descendants" written in 1915 by Henry Ernest Habershon. Extracts from this book can be seen at the Habershon Family Web Site.
John's father James was a surgical instrument maker. The book also states that he had a soprano voice and in conjunction with his brothers William and Thomas and an alto named Barker, formed a glee quartette which became famous in Sheffield and the district around for nearly thirty years.

This same family unit can be seen in the 1881 UK Census where John's parents and siblings can be seen, living at 3 Ho Ct 7 Aberdeen St., Ecclesall Bierlow, York, England:

Edwin HABERSHON Head M Male 44 Sheffield, York, England Fleam Grinder (Cutlery)
Emma HABERSHON Wife M Female 45 Sheffield, York, England
William HABERSHON Son U Male 16 Sheffield, York, England Sheep Shear Striker (Cutler)

Herbert HABERSHON Son Male 10 Sheffield, York, England Scholar
John A. HABERSHON Son Male 7 Sheffield, York, England Scholar
Walter HABERSHON Son Male 4 Sheffield, York, England

John's parents, James Edwin Habershon and Emma Poppleton, were married during q4/1866 at Ecclesall Bierlow District, Derbyshire.
__________

William married Mary Ellen Law in 1888 at Trinity Church, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England
Rosetta married her cousin William Habershon in 1889 at South Meriden, Connecticut, USA.
Albert Edward married Kate Alice Grant
Herbert was known to be living in the USA in 1913 and I suspect he never ever married.
Walter married Jenny Lancaster at St Silas Church, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England but was known to be living in the USA in 1913.

John's brother Walter can be seen arriving at New York in March 1907 aboard SS Lucania arriving from Liverpool. He is identified as Married and a Silver Smith by trade. He gave that he was visiting his brother Herbert at Meriden, Connecticut.

We can also see John's brother Herbert arriving at New York in September 1900 aboard SS Lucania from Liverpool, England. He was listed in the manifest as a US Citizen. He also sailed into New York in August 1902 aboard SS Campania from Liverpool and is listed as 'returning home'. Then again in August 1905 he arrived at New York aboard SS Atruria from Liverpool. Each time he was listed as single, occupation Buffer.

The Woman's Christian Temperance Union
have in their archives a document they call "WCTU Minutes of South Meriden" handwritten by a Herbert Habershon at South Meriden in 1896. So I suspect Herbert was heavily involved with the organisation. The History pages of the WCTU web site provides a very good understanding of what the movement stands for.

Thanks to some good investigative work by Shirley Walter, we know that Habershon Park at Meriden, Connecticut, was named after Herbie Habershon at a ceremony in May 1957, when he was 86 years old.

See the newspaper clipping and photograph of the opening ceremonies.

We can see John A Habershon, aged 19 years, arriving in New York aboard the Cunard ship Gallia which sailed from Liverpool. It departed Liverpool on 16 July and arrived in New York on 25 Jul 1892. He appeared to be travelling alone.

I believe John became a US National in 1892.
_________

John appears in the 1910 census return for South Meriden, Connecticut, age 37, immigrant, nationlisation in 1892, It says he and his parents were born in England.

Habershon Minnie Wife 36 Connecticut
Habershon Walter Brother 34 Silversmith
Flanaway Timoth Boarder 50 England

It also states that Minnie had given birth to one child who was still living at the time of the census. We know that would be Irene Barrows from Minnie's first marriage. Irene was living with her grandparents in Manchester, South Meriden in 1900 and 1910.
__________

John's Military Registration card, completed in September 1918 shows that he was living at Yalesville Road, South Meriden, New Haven, Connecticut. He was employed as a Polisher at the International Silver Co. at 48 State Street, Meriden. He was short and slender with brown eyes and dark hair.

We can John A Habershon living at New Haven, Connecticut, USA at the 1920 census.
John A Habershon Head 46 England Cutlery Polisher
Minnie Habershon Wife 46 Connecticut
Emiline Penfield Boarder 86 Connecticut

I don't believe Emeline was related in any way - just a lodger. She was born in Pennsylvania and married a man named Sial Penfield from Connecticut. Their children were all born in Wisconsin and they were living at Dave, Wisconsin in 1880, so I am guessing that Emiline and Silas moved back to Silas's home town in later years and she was widowed there.

Sadly, I could see no sign of Minnie Habershon's daughter Irene in the 1920 census. We know from the 5 generation photograph, she married a man named Young.
