__________

The Swerford PR transcript shows William as of Swerford. I have learned from his ggggranddaughter Carys McCarthy that he was actually born in Wootton, Northants.
__________

I understand from Carys and her mother Shirley Williams, that William was a blacksmith, apprenticed to George Hunt in Kidlington, Oxon. He appears in the 1861 census aged 18, born in Glympton which is the next village to Wootton. However, in all other census' his birth place is given as Wootton.
He worked at Duns Tew and Chacombe before settling at the Smithy at Hook Norton in a house which was once an inn (The Talbot?). The house is still there but it's no longer a smithy.
__________

William appears with his family in the 1881 census for England and Wales, living at Hook Norton, Oxfordshire.
William Weston, born Wootton, Oxfordshire, aged 38 Blacksmith
Louisa Weston, born Swerford, Oxfordshire, aged 31
John Weston, born Chacombe, Northamptonshire, age 10, a scholar
Wilfred J Weston, born Hook Norton, Oxfordshire, age 7, a scholar
Harry R Weston, born Hook Norton, Oxfordshire, age 5, a scholar
__________

William also appears in the 1901 census still living at Hook Norton working as he described it, a General and Shoeing Smith.
William Weston 58 Oxon Wootton Oxford General & Shoeing Smith
Louisa Weston 51 Oxon Swerford Oxford
Lillian Weston 13 Oxon Hook Norton Oxford Mothers Help

Also living with this family, listed as a visitor, was George Knibbs, the grand-nephew of William's wife Louisa Knibbs. George is listed as aged 4 years. Why he was living with his great-aunt Louisa is a bit of mystery, but it could have been for any number of reasons. George was born at around the time his mother, Sara Georgina Knibbs Rose married Albert Turvey so we don't know for sure who George's father was.

Living next door are William's son Wildred with his young family:
Wilfred Weston 27 Oxon Hook Norton General & Shoeing Smith
Sarah Weston 24 Hereford Brainton Hook Norton
Selina Weston 6M Oxon Hook Norton Hook Norton
