Graham Barber tells me:
George was at one time Head Gardener at Pitlochry House, Pitlochry, Perthshire, Scotland. At one time he used to sell religious books from his home and at markets in Barnstaple, Bideford and Ilfracombe in Devon, England.
He retired in 1926 and moved to live at 24 Avery Hill, New Eltham, London.
His hobbies were gardening and painting.

His occupation was given as Colporteur in 1921 which - in case anyone (like me) is uncertain as to what a colporteur is, it's an "itinerant seller or giver of books, especially religious literature".

Notes for Elsie Emily HILTON:

I am told by Graham Barber that Eslie married Alfred James Lawday on 12 June 1912. He was born 4 December 1883 at Barnstaple, Devon, England and died 22 September 1965.

She worked as cashier at International Grocers after leaving school. The shop stayed open late on Saturdays up to 10 pm and she had just one half day off per week.

After she and Alfred married they moved to lve in Wales until Alfred retired in 1948 when theymoved back to live at Eltham, SE London to be near to family.

Alfred was a Statin Master on the railways.

Edith married William Edward Lawrence in June 1934. He was born in Brixham, Devon, England and he died in May 1971 at Taunton, Devon, England.

Graham Barber tells me that William had been a lumberjack in Canada and a miner in South Wales but finally went into the Ministry as a Baptist Minister in Lydney, Penzance, Evesham and Hatch Beauchamp, Nr Taunton, Devon, England. He was also a chaplain in the army serving at Antwerp and Arnhem.
