Marriage Notes for John MARTIN\Elizabeth KNIBBS:
Elizabeth and John married at the Church of All Saints, West Bromwich.
Notes for John MARTIN:
In 1861, John (34), his wife Elizabeth (30) and four children Thomas (7), Joseph (5), Alice (2) and Angelina (0) were seen to be living at Horton Street, South Side, Swan in the district of West Bromwich, Staffordshire, England.
__________
In 1871, John and Elizabeth had Elizabeth's parents living with them. John and Elizabeth had another three children living with them since 1861 - Sara, Clara and Martha. The daughter Angelina doesn't appear in 1871 so we presume she must have died.
__________
John and Elizabeth can be seen in the 1881 census for England and Wales, living at Hagley Road, Ridgacre, Worcestershire with 5 children plus Elizabeth's parents, Joseph and Sarah Knibbs.

Joseph's date of birth is given incorrectly. He was born in 1799, not 1791 so would have been just 82.
__________
The Admissions Register for the Quinton National School 1872-1894 shows the following MARTIN children. Martha has the name of George Martin for a parent. This could be a mistake but it could also mean that she isn't from this family. She was living with them at the 1881 census so I assume it is a mistake.
No. Year Mth Name Born Parent/Guardian Occupation Address
41 1872 6 Martin Martha 7 3 1869 George Martin Forge Man Beech Lanes
93 1875 4 Martin Elisabeth 29 12 1871 ? Martin Labourer Beech Lanes
297 1879 5 Martin James William 20 13 1875 John Martin Labourer Beech Lanes
354 1880 4 Martin Samuel, D 27 12 1876 John Martin Labourer Beech Lanes
There was an Elizabeth Martin who died in December 1878, aged just 2 years. There is no indication that this was another daughter for this John Martin or one of the other Martin's living at Quinton at the time.
In addition, there were three other Martin Children at the school between 1881-86. These were the children of a Thomas Martin who appears in the 1881 census, living at Beech Lanes, so perhaps a brother of our John MARTIN?
__________
We can see from the following that John is given as the guardian of Kate Elizabeth Bennett, one of his grandchildren, when she was registered at the Quinton National School in August 1899, so I wonder what happened to Kate's parents?
No. Year Mth Name Born Parent/Guardian Occupation Address
638 1899 8 Bennett Kate Elizabeth 23 7 1892 John Martin(Grandfather) Beech Lanes
__________
John and Elizabeth can also be seen in the 1901 census, living at Quinton, Worcestershire aged 74 and 71 years respectively.

__________
I'm not sure of the reason, but it looks like Elizabeth and two of her siblings were living with their grandmother at the time of the 1841 census return:
WYATT Ann F 60 Independant
KNIBBS Elizabeth F 11
KNIBBS James M 6
KNIBBS Sarah F 3
I'm guessing that Ann Wyatt was their grandmother. They were all living at Burton Dassett, Warwickshire, England.
__________
In 1891 Elizabeth can be seen employing two of her daughters Martha & Sophia and a lodger in her laundry business
__________
Elizabeth can be seen living at Quinton, Worcestershire in the 1901 census.
__________
I'm not really sure of when Elizabeth died but suspect it was either q1/1906 or q4/1907 at West Bromwich District, England

__________
I have it from Bob Baldwin, Clara's great-grandson, that Clara married Alfred Staphnill in Stourbridge in the December Quarter of 1889, and they had the following children:
Alice Elizabeth b. 14 Apr 1890 at 3 Court, Parker Street, Birmingham
Theresa b. q4/1891 Birmingham
Walter John b. 8 Sep 1892
Emily Jane b. 8 May 1900 Kings Norton
William Henry b. q4/1901 Kings Norton
Alfred b. q1/1906 Kings Norton
Leonard Arthur b. q1/1909 Kings Norton
Alice Elizabeth is Bob's grandmother.

Notes for Joseph Knibbs MARTIN:
It can be seen in the Register of Burials 1869-1898 for Quinton, Worcestershire, England, that a man name Joseph Martin KNIBBS was buried on October 22nd 1891, aged 37 years. His address is given as The Queens Hospital. I can see no record of a Joseph Knibbs being born but suspect that he may well have been Joseph MARTIN.
The GRO has his death recorded as Joseph Knibbs MARTIN.
