In 1871, John and Elizabeth had Elizabeth's parents living with them. John and Elizabeth had another three children living with them since 1861 - Sara, Clara and Martha. The daughter Angelina doesn't appear in 1871 so we presume she must have died.

Joseph's date of birth is given incorrectly. He was born in 1799, not 1791 so would have been just 82.

The Admissions Register for the Quinton National School 1872-1894 shows the following MARTIN children. Martha has the name of George Martin for a parent. This could be a mistake but it could also mean that she isn't from this family. She was living with them at the 1881 census so I assume it is a mistake.

There was an Elizabeth Martin who died in December 1878, aged just 2 years. There is no indication that this was another daughter for this John Martin or one of the other Martin's living at Quinton at the time.

In addition, there were three other Martin Children at the school between 1881-86. These were the children of a Thomas Martin who appears in the 1881 census, living at Beech Lanes, so perhaps a brother of our John MARTIN?

We can see from the following that John is given as the guardian of Kate Elizabeth Bennett, one of his grandchildren, when she was registered at the Quinton National School in August 1899, so I wonder what happened to Kate's parents?

I'm not sure of the reason, but it looks like Elizabeth and two of her siblings were living with their grandmother at the time of the 1841 census return:

I have it from Bob Baldwin, Clara's great-grandson, that Clara married Alfred Staphnill in Stourbridge in the December Quarter of 1889, and they had the following children:

Alice Elizabeth is Bob's grandmother.

It can be seen in the Register of Burials 1869-1898 for Quinton, Worcestershire, England, that a man name Joseph Martin KNIBBS was buried on October 22nd 1891, aged 37 years. His address is given as The Queens Hospital. I can see no record of a Joseph Knibbs being born but suspect that he may well have been Joseph MARTIN.

The GRO has his death recorded as Joseph Knibbs MARTIN.
