Edwin's father was Harry Jervis, a chimney sweeper, born abt.1789 at Kings Sutton, Northamptonshire, England. Harry was also sometimes know as Henry. I am told by Irene Andrews, a descendant of Henry/Harry Jarvis that the names Henry and Harry were quite common in both sides of the family and were often interchangeable. Irene also tells me that it was at about the the time when Edwin was born that the spelling of the surname changed from Jervis to Jarvis.

Edwin's mother was Elizabeth (nee Mayress) who I believe was from Highworth, Wiltshire, England.

Edwin's father died aged 69 years on 8 July 1851 at Kings Sutton, Northamptonshire, England, so very soon after Edwin was born.
