Susan Elizabeth KNIBBS, CBE

George was born in Buffalo, New York, USA in June 1850, the son of Isaac KNIBBS and his wife Phoebe. He was the oldest of three children and had one brother Charles and a sister Bella. George was of the first generation of this family to be born in America. His father was born in Somerton, Oxfordshire, England although his mother was a native New Yorker.

George married Sara in 1873 and they in turn had three children. Their oldest son was Henry Herbert Knibbs who became the famous cowboy poet. Not a great deal is known about George. We know that we was a bank clerk for part of his life and most articles written about his son Henry say that Henry was born to wealthy American parents.
