James KNIBBS, Farmington CT, 1869

In 1857, my grandfather's uncle, James KNIBBS b.1828 in Clifton, Oxfordshire, England, emigrated with his wife and two children (Ann and Elizabeth) to live in Connecticut , USA. They settled in the township of Farmington, Hartford County. The above map from 1869 shows part of the north-west districts of Farmington where we know he lived.
The red marker shows where he was living with his wife and 7 children in 1869. The house they lived in was valued at around $1,800 at that time.

Living just around the corner, about 2 or 3 miles from where James and his family lived was Elijah ROBERTS, his wife Sally and four children (Elijah, Enoch, William and Harriet).

In the year 1870, Elijah ROBERTS' son Elijah, married James KNIBBS' daughter Ann.

I'm extremely grateful to Shirley "Lee" Walter for her gift of a full version of this map during my recent visit to Connecticut when I met with several of the descendants of the marriage between Isaac ROBERTS and Ann KNIBBS.
