Eveline (Butler) KNIBBS 1880-1961 Eveline was my grandmother. She was born in Warwick, Warwickshire, England in 1880. She married George Levi KNIBBS in 1903 at Deddington, Oxfordshire. Shortly after they married, George and Eveline moved to live at Basingstoke, Hampshire, England where George was employed by the Great Western Railway company. In those days, Basingstoke was a major hub of the railway network. They lived all of their married lives at Phoenix Park Terrace, Basingstoke, which was very close to the railway station, and until the 1950's, right next to the weekly cattle market which was held on the green opposite Phoenix Park Terrace. I was told by a cousin of my dad that Eveline and George's sister Sarah Knibbs worked together in service. One Christmas, Sarah took Eveline home to Clifton with her and that was when she met George. |
