Harold George KNIBBS

1913-1998

Harold went to work for G Scutter at his bakery in Basingstoke in 1932 when he was about 19 years old. He worked in the bakery as well as driving the delivery van.

This reference states that Harold had "driven for a considerable time without mishap". His nephew Roy recollects a time when that very nearly wasn't the case. Harold often took Roy, who was a young boy at the time, on his rounds. Roy told me of a time when Harold forgot to apply the handbrake. The van started to roll off downhill with Roy shouting to Harold who thankfully managed to catch it and apply the break.

So very nearly not such a glowing reference!
